How it Works The process for backing up data stored on a PC begins with the installation of a small piece of backup software called My Secure Backup (MSB). Using MSB, you can select the data you want to back up and when you'd like scheduled backups to take place. If you have a group of machines to manage, you would repeat the install and selection procedure on each computer. The backup software ensures data is compressed and encrypted to 128-bit AES encryption standards and sent to a state-of-the-art data centre using SSL security measures. Once the data arrives at this data centre, it is mirrored to a second data centre in a geographically separate location for failover contingency. And it is in these data vaults that your data resides, completely encrypted and secure. On-going incremental backups happen in exactly the same way, with data being continually encrypted, packaged and sent to the vaults. Multiple versions ( 3 by default) are stored as archives so if you need to you can 'step back in time' to before a file was lost or corrupted. When you need to recover a file, folder or entire directory you simply use MSB to select which files you'd like to recover and from which date. The software will validate your credentials, connect to the vaults and begin the process of streaming the information back to your computer, de-encrypting it and letting you know when it is complete. If you have lost access to your PC or laptop, you can access your data from any internet-connected location using web access. This allows you to recover files or folders on the move. MSB will also configure your backup set as a virtual hard drive on your computer. This virtual hard drive is accessible from all computers with MSB installed. ![]()
BUSINESS-GRADE PC BACKUP SOLUTIONOnline data backup technology has matured over 20 years to become a trusted solution for protecting data on laptops and PCs. Whether you are a small business protecting one computer or IT manager responsible for managing thousands, you can benefit from the security, performance and ease of management online data backup provides.Online data backup offers better data securityTape and hard-drive backup cannot guarantee security. Many physical solutions fail to properly encrypt stored data and because they are physical devices, they are exposed to theft, misuse and damage. Online data backup improves data security through:
Online data backup provides reliability and performanceTape and hard-drive backup requires manual intervention. It demands time - and makes the process vulnerable to human error. Backing data up online automates the entire process, guaranteeing it happens and provides alerting in case potential issues arise. Backup performance is energized through:
Online data backup reduces management overheadTape and hard-drive backups require effort to manage. In most cases that effort is not adding any potential value to the company - it's necessary, but it's unwanted. Data backup through online technology provides integration, automation and ease-of-use features that reduce the effort required to provide business-grade data protection of PCs and laptops:
